Neck lift
Defined contours for a rejuvenated profile
The key facts at a glance: neck lift
- What is a neck lift? A surgical procedure to correct slackened skin and sagging tissue in the neck area. Often the underlying neck muscle (platysma) is tightened as well.
- The aim: To restore a clear, youthful jaw-to-neck line (jawline) and eliminate excess skin on the neck.
- The method: Depending on the findings, we combine the removal of excess skin with tightening of the muscles or targeted liposuction.
- Naturalness: By focusing on the deeper tissue layers, we avoid an artificially "pulled" appearance and achieve a long-term stable result.
- Combinations: The neck lift is often performed as part of a facelift to create a harmonious transition between the face and décolleté.
The forgotten calling card: a firm neck
We often invest a great deal in caring for our face, while the neck shows the first clear signs of ageing. The skin on the neck is particularly thin and loses elasticity early. When the flat neck muscle (platysma) additionally slackens, the typical vertical “bands” or an unclear transition between the chin and chest arise. At our practice for oral, maxillofacial, facial and plastic surgery in the Zurich / Lake Zurich region, we treat the neck as an integral part of your appearance. A neck lift can rejuvenate the appearance by years without the face itself looking changed.
Causes of slackening on the neck
An unflattering neck profile can have various causes, which we analyse individually:
- Skin slackening: Loss of elasticity due to ageing or significant weight loss.
- Muscle slackening: The edges of the platysma muscle protrude as unsightly vertical folds.
- Local fat deposits: The so-called double chin can completely mask the chin line, even in slim patients.
Our surgical approaches for a sharp profile
We adapt the technique individually and precisely to your anatomical findings:
Platysmaplasty (muscle tightening):
Via a discreet incision under the chin, the separated muscle edges are reunited and tightened. This forms the inner corset for a smooth neck.
Lateral neck lift:
Excess skin is gently repositioned backwards and upwards. The incisions run behind the ear along the hairline.
Liposuction:
For bothersome fat deposits under the chin, we use blunt, microfine cannulas to precisely work out the contour of the jawline.
Why a neck lift belongs in the hands of an experienced plastic and aesthetic surgeon
The neck houses vital structures, vessels and nerves in a very confined space. Through our many years of experience as surgeons in reconstruction, we specialise in the complex anatomy of the head and neck.
- Deep structure: We tighten not only the surface but also correct the muscular foundation.
- Profile harmony: We always check the interplay with the chin projection. Occasionally a combination with a chin correction (genioplasty) is advisable to achieve a perfect profile.
- Scar management: We rely on the finest suture techniques, discreetly placed in the natural skin folds.
