For an aesthetic and/or medical/dental indication, Botox® is injected into the masticatory muscle (masseter, temporalis). If this muscle is very pronounced, it can make the face appear wider. Relaxing the muscle leads to a gradual narrowing of the lower facial area and a more accentuated jawline. In the case of bruxism, the injection reduces the excessive muscle activity, which can lead to relief of the temporomandibular joint and a reduction of secondary symptoms such as headaches or tooth damage.
