For patients suffering from chronic migraine (defined as headaches on 15 or more days per month, of which at least 8 days have migraine characteristics), a Botox® migraine treatment can bring significant relief. The efficacy of botulinum toxin type A in the prophylaxis of chronic migraine is proven by extensive clinical studies and represents a recognised treatment option.
The treatment involves multiple injections at specific points in the head, neck and shoulder muscles. These injections are carried out according to a standardised scheme (the PREEMPT protocol).
