Liposuction in the chin area (submental liposuction)

For a clear and defined chin line

A harmoniously contoured chin and a clearly defined jawline are essential features of an attractive face and contribute significantly to a youthful appearance. Localised accumulations of fat under the chin, often referred to as a “double chin”, can disturb this contour and are perceived by many of those affected as aesthetically disadvantageous. The causes of this may be genetic, occur as part of the natural ageing process or be due to weight fluctuations.

Liposuction in the chin area, also known as submental liposuction, is a precise and effective procedure to permanently remove excess fatty tissue in this region and improve the chin-neck contour. This procedure is one of the frequently requested treatments at our practice and is performed with great care by our specialists in oral and maxillofacial surgery as well as plastic and aesthetic surgery.

Indications for chin liposuction:

Submental liposuction is particularly suitable for patients in whom there is primarily an excess of fatty tissue and less a significant excess of skin. In the case of pronounced skin slackening, supplementary or alternative tightening procedures (e.g. neck lift, facelift) may be indicated, which we are happy to explain in an individual consultation.

The procedure: precision for aesthetic results

Liposuction on the chin is a comparatively small procedure that can be performed on an outpatient basis and partly under local anaesthesia, if necessary with additional twilight sedation or general anaesthesia. After careful disinfection and marking of the treatment area, very fine cannulas are introduced through tiny, inconspicuously placed skin incisions (usually under the chin and/or behind the earlobes). Using these cannulas, the excess fatty tissue is suctioned off precisely and gently. In doing so, our surgeons pay particular attention to even fat removal to achieve a natural and harmonious contour. The experience and aesthetic sense of the surgeon are of decisive importance here for an optimal result.

We rely on techniques that enable minimal tissue trauma and rapid regeneration. The procedure usually takes between 60 and 90 minutes.

After chin liposuction:

After the procedure, a special compression bandage or a chin support garment is applied. This garment should be worn consistently for a period determined by the doctor, usually one to two weeks, to minimise swelling and support skin adaptation. Slight swelling, bruising and a feeling of tension are normal in the first few days. These symptoms usually subside within a few days to weeks. Most patients are presentable again after a short time. Sporting activities and physically demanding tasks should be avoided for a few weeks. The small skin incisions usually heal with minimal scarring and are barely visible later.

Benefits and realistic expectations:

Liposuction in the chin area can lead to a significant improvement in the facial contour and to a rejuvenated appearance. The results are usually permanent, as the removed fat cells are not newly formed. A healthy lifestyle helps to maintain the result in the long term.

It is important to have realistic expectations. In a personal consultation, our specialists will inform you comprehensively about the possibilities, limits and potential risks of submental liposuction. We take the time to answer your questions and to ensure that you can make an informed decision. Our expertise in oral and maxillofacial surgery enables us to assess the anatomical structures particularly precisely and to plan treatment on that basis in an individualised way.
