Orthognathic surgery
Correction of jaw misalignments
Orthognathic surgery, also known as corrective jaw surgery or jaw surgery, deals with the correction of jaw misalignments. Such misalignments (e.g. underbite, overbite, open bite, crossbite, facial asymmetries) can entail both functional and aesthetic impairments. Functional problems can include difficulties with chewing, closing the mouth, speaking, breathing or temporomandibular joint complaints. Orthognathic surgery aims to bring the jaws into a correct position relative to each other and to the facial skeleton. This is usually done in close interdisciplinary collaboration with orthodontists. Through precise planning, using modern 3D visualisation techniques, and gentle surgical techniques, we improve chewing function, the harmony of the facial profile and thus our patients’ quality of life.
What makes the difference:
In a precisely planned three-dimensional concept, we specifically address the individual patient type (facial shape, ethnicity, medical history, etc.), the patient’s particular wishes regarding appearance (effect, etc.) and the functional circumstances (breathing, mouth closure or similar), and present these in a comprehensible way.
Our surgical methods are exceptionally tissue-sparing and shorten healing and hospital stays as well as surgical side effects (bleeding and swelling, etc.).
