Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)

Restoring a firm abdominal contour

A flat, firm abdomen is often regarded as the ideal image of physical aesthetics. However, factors such as significant weight loss, pregnancies or the natural ageing process can lead to a slackening of the abdominal wall. Excess skin, fatty tissue and weakened abdominal muscles can be the result and can often no longer be adequately corrected even through intensive exercise or diets.

The tummy tuck, medically known as abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure that aims to remove excess skin and fatty tissue in the abdominal area while at the same time tightening the underlying abdominal muscles. The aim is to restore a firmer, flatter and more aesthetically pleasing abdominal contour.

Who is a tummy tuck suitable for?

An abdominoplasty can be a suitable solution for women and men who:

A tummy tuck is not a primary means of weight reduction, but serves to contour the body. Before the procedure, the desired weight should largely be reached and stable. For women who wish to have children, an abdominoplasty should ideally only be considered once family planning is complete, as another pregnancy can impair the result.

The surgical procedure of the tummy tuck:

The tummy tuck technique is individually adapted to the findings and the patient’s wishes. At our practice, every procedure is carefully planned and performed by experienced specialists in plastic and aesthetic surgery.

With a full abdominoplasty, a long horizontal incision is typically made above the pubic hairline, positioned so that the scar can later be well concealed by underwear or swimwear. A further incision often runs around the navel to move it into its new, natural position. The skin and the underlying fatty tissue are lifted away from the abdominal muscles. Excess skin and fat are removed and, if a rectus diastasis is present, the straight abdominal muscles are tightened in the midline. The remaining skin is then pulled downwards and sutured.

With a smaller excess of skin confined mainly to the lower abdomen, a so-called mini abdominoplasty (mini tummy tuck) may be sufficient. This procedure is less invasive and usually does not require an incision around the navel.

The operation is usually performed under general anaesthesia and requires a short hospital stay.

After the tummy tuck:

Immediately after the operation, drains are inserted to drain off wound fluid. A special compression garment must be worn for several weeks to reduce swelling, support healing and shape the new abdominal contour. Pain and a feeling of tension are normal in the first few days and can be treated well with medication.

The recovery time after a tummy tuck varies from person to person. Physical rest is required for a few weeks, and exercise as well as heavy lifting should be avoided for at least six to eight weeks. Our specialists accompany you closely throughout the entire healing process and give you detailed aftercare instructions.

The final result is visible after all swelling has subsided and the scars have fully matured, which can take several months to a year. The scars fade over time but remain permanently visible.

Scientific basis and individual consultation:

The techniques of the tummy tuck are scientifically well founded and have proven themselves over many years. Continuous developments aim to optimise the results and maximise safety for patients.

In a personal consultation, our specialists will analyse your individual situation, discuss your expectations and inform you comprehensively about the procedure, the incisions, the healing process and possible risks. Our goal is to offer you a sound basis for your decision and to find, together with you, the optimal path to an improved body contour. The satisfaction and well-being of our patients come first for us.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO WELCOMING YOU!
