Facial Planning
Your path to a harmonious facial profile
Do you wish for a harmonious facial profile?
The face is the mirror of our personality. Yet often it is not individual wrinkles that bother us, but the underlying proportions: a receding chin, an overly prominent jaw or a lack of contour in the midface can noticeably disturb the harmony. While aesthetic dermatology often works only at the skin’s surface, with Facial Planning we go one decisive step further. As specialists in oral and maxillofacial surgery, we understand the face as a three-dimensional architecture. We know: true beauty comes from the structure – the bone.
What exactly does Facial Planning mean?
Facial Planning is far more than classic cosmetic surgery. It is an analytical and surgical concept that takes into account the interaction between the bony framework and the soft tissue (skin, muscles). A beautiful face is defined by balance. When the bony foundation is not right – for example due to a malocclusion or an underdeveloped chin – the face often appears tired, stern or asymmetrical. Through targeted bony changes, we create a stable foundation over which the skin can stretch youthfully and firmly.
When is Facial Planning worthwhile?
Many patients come to us with the wish for “more freshness” or a “better profile”, without being able to name the exact cause. Facial Planning is ideal in cases of:
- A disharmonious profile: e.g. a "bird face" (receding chin with a protruding nose) or a face that is too long/too short.
- A receding chin (retrogenia): When the lower half of the face appears weak and the transition to the neck is unclear ("double chin" despite normal weight).
- Asymmetries: Uneven jaw angles or cheekbones.
- Signs of ageing: The loss of bone with age causes the face to sink. Implants or bone augmentation can permanently restore volume here.
Our method: analysis and bony correction
At our practice for oral, maxillofacial, facial and plastic surgery in the Zurich / Lake Zurich region we do not leave aesthetics to chance. Every procedure begins with a precise analysis of your face (often supported by 3D imaging and facial/skull measurement (cephalometry)) to find the “golden ratio” of your individual features.
The spectrum of bony changes includes:
By gently repositioning your own chin bone, we can make the profile more defined or harmonise a chin that is too long. The result is permanent and feels absolutely natural to the body.
A defined jawline stands for youth and dynamism. We can build up this contour through targeted implants or repositioning osteotomies.
In cases of more complex discrepancies, we reposition the upper and lower jaw so that not only is the bite functionally perfected, but the facial soft tissue also unfolds harmoniously.
Why Facial Planning with an oral and maxillofacial surgeon?
In contrast to purely aesthetic surgeons, as specialists in oral and maxillofacial surgery we have a dual expertise: we master both the complex anatomy of the facial skeleton and the high standards of aesthetic medicine. We do not change your type, but optimise your proportions so that the result looks completely natural and suits your type. It is not about looking “done”, but about revealing the best version of your own face.
