With increasing age, the particularly thin and sensitive skin around the eye loses elasticity \u2013 accelerated by UV radiation, lack of sleep, nicotine, alcohol and stress. Genetic factors also play a role. <br \/>On the upper eyelid, excess skin bulges over the lashes and covers the eyelid crease \u2013 the gaze appears heavy, tired or sad. <br \/>On the lower eyelid, the orbital septum \u2013 a fine layer of connective tissue that holds the fatty tissue in the eye socket \u2013 slackens over time. When it drops, the typical bulges arise that we perceive as under-eye bags.
